SESSION MINUTES
SPECIAL MEETING SEPTEMBER 16, 2007
The Session of the First Presbyterian Church,
Elders present were Dr. Larry Davis, Pat Davitt, Martha Nell Richards, Charles Morgan, Richard Sexton, Billie Ford, Carla Lacy, Shelia Moore, Don Johnson, Lynn Jackson, Dr. David Williams, and Moderator Reverend Dianne Brown. Also present was Clerk Stacy Cogbill. Elder Fran Keasler was absent.
Reverend Brown called the meeting to order, declared a quorum present, and opened with prayer. She stated that the purpose of the meeting was to consider her letter of resignation as pastor of the church.
MOTION
After considerable discussion Charles Morgan made the following motion:
WHEREAS, the Session of First Presbyterian Church of Texarkana has not had sufficient time to consider Reverend Dianne Brown’s request to resign as Pastor; and
WHEREAS, additional time is needed for the Session to review the issues that have prompted Reverend Brown’s request; and
WHEREAS, a full and complete discussion of the issues is needed, including a discussion with Reverend Joe Hill, Executive Presbyter of Pines Presbytery;
NOW THEREFORE, I, Chuck Morgan, Elder and Chairman of the Personnel Committee, move that any discussion of Reverend Brown’s resignation be deferred until Thursday, September 20, 2007, at 5:00 p.m., the next regularly scheduled Session meeting, and that Stacy Cogbill as Clerk of Session be instructed not to read to the congregation Reverend Brown’s letter of resignation until such time as Session shall authorize such reading after a full discussion of all issues surrounding Reverend Brown’s request, and that an invitation be extended to Reverend Joe Hill to meet with the Session on the first date that is mutually convenient with the Session and Reverend Hill.
Lynn Jackson seconded the Motion and it was passed.
Martha Nell Richards said that the congregation needed to be told of the proceedings and requested that the Clerk announce this during the morning worship service. The entire Session concurred.
ADJOURNMENT
Reverend Brown closed the meeting with prayer.
