This first person dramatic monologue was given as part of a series that we are doing on Wednesday nights throughout the Summer of 2015. The monologues are based upon study by Kerr Resources called “Disciples and Other Sinners.”
Each monologue is a fictitious historical narrative. The author sought to develop backstories for the character that are plausible given what we know about the individual characters and the biblical era.
John did not memorize the monologue verbatim and at one point slipped and used a modern idiom. He said something to the effect of the Roman soldiers assist the tax collector Levi in extracting every nickel and dime out of people. Oops. He realized what he had done the moment he did it, but just stayed in character and kept moving. Please forgive the anachronism.
May these monologues be a blessing to you.
