We Presbyterians don’t “do Gospel” very often; so you won’t want to miss this opportunity.
Dear First Family,
For our Bible Study tonight we’ll be watching the video of Rev. Thomas Daniel’s sermon at FPC, Magnolia on Sunday, May 8, 2016.This worship service was the culmination of his weekend at Magnolia, First to present the Fellowship of Presbyterians Community to that congregation and her neighbors. Several of us from FPC, TXK attended the Saturday event, and Mark & Martha Nell Richards returned for Sunday worship.
What is the Fellowship of Presbyterians? In their words, “The Fellowship Community is a network of churches and leaders called together to proclaim the gospel of Jesus Christ by growing in Christ’s likeness, living by God’s word, and joining in God’s mission in the world.”
How is this different than what we’re already to be about? It’s not, really.
This network, along with NEXT CHURCH, is a way for us to be “called back” to our original intent as a community of faith. In this rapidly changing world, the church has a tendency to get sidetracked and lose focus on what is most important – presentation of and living of the gospel of Jesus Christ. The Fellowship Community and NEXT CHURCH are ways for us to come together to remember our call and hold each other accountable.
Next week Sarang with share more about NEXT CHURCH with us by sharing 3 Ignite Presentations about ministries that have flourished in a new way.
What do a hospice director, retired corporate exec, paper mill employee, and 5th grader have in common?
- They all worship at First Presbyterian Church, Texarkana, Arkansas.
- God has moved in the lives of all four in profound ways.
- They are brave enough to come share their experiences this Sunday in celebration of Pentecost Sunday.
On the first Pentecost Sunday, God’s Spirit moved over the church in a profound way. Peter spoke to the crowds testifying to what God had done through Jesus and what God was doing on that day. We are told that “…with many words he bore witness and continued to exhort them.” Because of his sharing many came to believe and understand God more deeply.
Honoring God this Sunday
In that spirit, this Sunday three adults and one of the children in our church will be sharing ways God has touched their lives profoundly. I hope you will be there to be enriched by their stories, to support them in sharing their faith, and most importantly, to honor what God has done.
My playful challenge to you
To make this a little more fun – I have a challenge for you. I have a Starbucks gift card for the first person who can guess who all four are. No cheating — you can’t go sneak peaking at the bulletin or calling a staff member. Email me back with your best guess A.S.A.P.
